Go on. You can do it!
Here’s my Friday night gift to you, whoever happens to chance across this post. Look for the silver lining. Sung by the inimitable Chet Baker. And what a beautiful tragic figure he was, hey?
I’m always intrigued by people who are so damn talented and yet, seem so tortured that in some way, somehow, they spiral into a demise not befitting their out-of-this-world genius. Chet Baker was one of these people. In modern terms, it’s probably Amy Winehouse. Or Michael Jackson. You want to say “what a shame” but that’s just wasting time. Time that could be better spent appreciating the legacy they have left behind.
A heart full of joy and gladness
Will always banish sadness and strife
So always look for the silver lining
And try to find the sunny side of lifeĀ
If you’re new to Chet Baker and that clip didn’t convince you, try this on for size. Be still my heart. It’s live. Damn… he’s so good! Put this on, walk away and be lazy somewhere in some corner of your house for 7:18 minutes.
It’ll do you good. I swear by it.

What a tragic story
Fantastic music though that will always be beautiful! Thanks for posting this, I’m putting together some music to have on around the house that the kids can listen to (that isn’t modern rubbish), this will definitely be on it!
I hear Chet now!
Me too! Fancy that…
A fine start to the weekend… which is a silver lining in itself.
TGIF!
